The Right Job Could Be One Connection Away

Dear
:

Welcome back to the Fresh Jobs Update from Andrew Hudson's Jobs List!   We have a lot of useful information in today's list, and as always, there's TONS of new Colorado opportunities on today's list.

Yes, it gets frustrating. You put in the time, tailor your resume, write the cover letter—and hear nothing.

But here’s the thing: applying to online job postings and then sitting back and crossing your fingers is an exercise in futility. It’s like fishing for a shark with a worm. It is a passive approach that puts too much of your job search in someone else’s hands.

Submitting the application should be the beginning of your effort.

Set a goal to make 10 contacts every day.

They don’t all have to result in a job offer. Most won’t. They are simply points of contact that move your job search forward.

Send an email. Make a phone call. Reach out through a LinkedIn message. Schedule a networking conversation. Attend a networking event. Make a cold call to a company that interests you. Contact someone you’ve researched and believe you have a good reason to know.

Reconnect with former colleagues, clients and professional contacts. Ask who they know. Learn about companies and their needs. Look for opportunities to explain how your experience, skills and accomplishments could help.

Job seeking is a full contact sport. Ten contacts a day means 50 contacts a week. That creates more possibilities than sending application after application into an online system and hoping someone notices you.

None of this excuses employers who leave applicants hanging. And it doesn’t mean you’ve done something wrong if your search is taking time.

But an active job search means reaching out.

Keep applying. Keep connecting. Give your experience a voice beyond the submit button.

Continued Good Luck in your Job Search!

Do you need help in your job search?

If you are looking for help in your job search, let me help you!

In the past week, I've received the following messages:

“I've just accepted a job offer!  Thank you so much for your support!  I couldn't have done this without your assistance. Your resume reboot, reports, and one-on-one consultation gave me the tools and more importantly the language to tell my career story in a way that not only excited others but it excited me as well. This really came through in my interviews and empowered me to be very strategic in my job search.” Nonprofit Executive

"Andrew, I am happy to report that I have 2 job offers!  Your help in convincing me of my transferable skills and the value of my accomplishments gave me the confidence and motivation to believe in myself.  Both recruiters told me my résumé was a deciding factor in getting interviews.  Thank you!" IT Professional

"Dear Andrew: Today I have accepted a job as an Editor.  I can't tell you how much your help in overcoming my fears and recognizing my worth helped me in landing this job." Journalist

For nearly 30 years, I’ve written résumés and coached job seekers across virtually every career level and profession—from Ph.D. scientists to IT directors, marketing managers, school executives, banking vice presidents, CEOs, elected leaders and executive assistants.

I’ve worked with entry-level candidates launching their careers and accomplished professionals who haven’t conducted a job search in years.

And while yes, a strong résumé is critical, it’s only one part of a successful search.

You also need focused confidence, motivation, clear goals, a consistent routine and the discipline to keep moving forward. Just as important is understanding—and believing in—the differentiated value you bring to an employer.

And, of course, you must have the skills to successfully look for a job.

If you'd like to work with me on your job search, CLICK HERE to register and we'll begin the process.

Nonprofit of the Week:
First Descents
For young adults facing cancer or another serious health condition, healing involves more than medical treatment. It also means rebuilding confidence, finding community and rediscovering a sense of possibility.

Denver-based First Descents provides life-changing outdoor adventures that help young adults move beyond their diagnoses. Through activities such as rock climbing, kayaking and surfing, participants challenge themselves, develop supportive relationships and embrace the organization’s “Out Living It” spirit. Its programs combine the restorative power of the outdoors with a strong and inclusive community—at no cost to participants.

First Descents is currently hiring for two full-time, hybrid positions at its Denver headquarters:

Senior Program Manager – Partnerships & Recruitment
Salary: $62,494–$69,993
This leadership position will oversee First Descents’ participant-recruitment strategy while building partnerships with healthcare providers, hospitals, patient-advocacy organizations, outdoor organizations and other nonprofits. The Senior Program Manager will lead recruitment staff, manage program goals and budgets, analyze performance data and help strengthen the participant experience from initial inquiry through long-term engagement.

Program Coordinator – Recruitment & Engagement
Salary: $21.85–$25.45 per hour
The Program Coordinator will help guide participants through the application process while supporting recruitment, program logistics, communications and data management. This position is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented and energetic professional who enjoys working directly with people and wants to help create safe, meaningful and memorable experiences.

Both positions offer the opportunity to join a mission-driven organization that uses adventure to build confidence, connection and hope among young adults navigating serious health challenges. Employees receive competitive health benefits, a 4% employer retirement match, 25 days of annual paid time off, paid parental leave, professional-development and wellness stipends, and opportunities to experience First Descents programs firsthand.

Applications received by October 5 will receive priority consideration.
