Myths About Résumés
There are a lot of myths about resumes:
Should my résumé really be one page? (Early career? Probably. Mid-Senior career? Generally no.)
Is one 'really good' résumé ok? (Every résumé should be designed and formatted so you can easily customize certain sections.)
How far back should my work chronology go back? (Case by case, but typically no further than 15 years.)
Are computers, not humans, really ranking my résumé? (Yes. But there are ways to format your résumé to get your resumé ranked higher and get an interview.)
Should I 'dumb down' my résumé because I'm over 50? (No. The value of your experiences, talents, skills and accomplishments should never be marginalized.)
I've been a stay-at-home parent for a few years. How do I handle a gap in my work history on my résumé? (You want to explain the gap but still show how your skills and experiences are valuable.)
I hear AI is a good way to write my résumé. (I've yet to find an AI résumé writing program that can personalize a job seeker's brand in their résumé that creates results.)
