Are you feeling frustrated you are not getting responses when you submit your résumé to an open job posting? Are you concerned your unique talents, experiences and accomplishments are not breaking through when you have an interview? Is your résumé up to snuff? Or are you simply feeling overwhelmed because you haven't had to look for a job in a long time?
In more than 25 years of working with job seekers, I've never met an 'unemployable' job seeker. But I have worked with hundreds of professionals who simply didn't know how to find a job. And it's not their fault.
For many professionals, a sudden layoff or other situation that puts them back in the job seeking marketplace can be jolting!
Your layoff will not define your career, but the way you bounce back after it will. Everyone’s timeline is different. Don’t be hard on yourself if it is taking longer and is much more challenging to find your next opportunity. That is a reflection of the market, not you.
There are going to be days when things are uncertain. Days of defeat. Days you question everything. Days you want to cry. Days you want to yell. Days you want to hide. And days you want to give up.
But there will also be days you are focused, motivated, and energized. Days you make progress and days you find clarity. Days you rely on your faith and those who love you for support. Days you let go of what you can’t control and remember to trust in yourself.
And there will be a day in which you look down from a higher point in your career and reflect on what you overcame to get there.
Hold on, hang in there. Keep even the tiniest light on in your spirit. You will overcome this.
Don’t give up!
For most everybody, winding your way through the today's job seeking process is fraught with feelings of anxiety, fear and self doubt. First you have to figure out WHAT you want to do and you have to convincingly connect your skills, accomplishments, education and expertise to prove to others you are capable of doing it! Then you have to overcome the challenges of getting your résumé noticed and getting some facetime with an actual person. And what about the interview? You know you can do the job, but how do you differentiate yourself in a convincing and confident way that gets you the job offer?
And the game has changed!
These days you have to navigate through job boards, online application tracking systems, social media, networking, interviewing, self branding and, oh yeah, did you know that every résumé and cover letter has to be customized to the job posting to which you're applying?
Learning the strategies of a successful job search will help you become a more skilled job seeker. Understanding how to better position and differentiate yourself in the marketplace of job seekers will lead to more opportunities.
The AHJL Career Bootcamp is an intensive 3 hour, interactive, small group session that's specifically designed to help make your mind sparkle with fresh ideas and give you a new perspective on how to market and brand your unique skills and experiences to differentiate yourself and get noticed by employers.

What will happen at Career Bootcamp?
|
|
|
The group session is designed to be fun and engaging! You will be surrounded by others who may be in a similar situation and who can offer additional support and advice as you progress in your job search. Often, Career Bootcamp classes have organized their own job search support groups to meet and exchange ideas and encouragement.
Here are some of the areas we'll cover in Career Bootcamp:
- Résumés and cover letters. Is your résumé convincing and persuasive? Does it create those magical 'imagination moments' that leads to an interview? How can your résumé make it through an applicant tracking system (ATS). And what about cover letters? Are they important and how can they break through to demonstrate your skills, success and accomplishments?
- Secrets of the corporate recruiters revealed! Often, a successful job search means understanding the recruiting process from an employer's perspective. What are companies looking for in a candidate? What are things job seekers can do to increase their chances of getting hired?
- Personal branding. As a job seeker, you are a product in the marketplace of job seekers. Do you have a personal brand? As an expert in branding and marketing, I'll teach you how to energize your résumé, cover letter and interviews to stay consistent and focused with your skills, experiences, accomplishments and career goals.
- Where are the jobs in Denver? Simply looking at job boards often isn't enough. You'll learn how to identify career opportunities in different job sectors specific to Denver's economy. You'll get an overview of the top industries, companies and nonprofit organizations in Colorado and beyond that are actively hiring.
- We'll work as a team on your networking skills. National statistics show that 75% of new hires are the result of personal references and networking. I'll teach you some basic networking strategies that can help open the doors to new job opportunities.
- Motivation. I’ll show you how to develop a job-seeking routine that will give you the discipline to keep motivated and inspired in your job search.
- Interviews and negotiating. I'll work with you on how to prepare for interviews and you'll learn new, simple and effective interviewing skills. You'll also learn how to avoid common interview mistakes.
- How to identify your true skills. Often, we have a very narrow perception of what talents and expertise we have to offer, when in fact, we posses a variety of skills we've gained from a lifetime of work. I'll discuss how to identify the skills that are important to employers and how to transfer your talent to different careers, industries and job sectors.
- Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and blogs. How do the new social media platforms play into searching for your new job? We'll break through the myths and teach you all you need to know about LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, online portfolios and other digital media platforms.
